Pricing

You might be wondering why we have a range of prices - we've certainly been asked this. Here's a breakdown of the prices, and then, further down, a broader explanation of what your money pays for.

  • £12.50 - we want every day to be a good pants day and believe that everyone needs fantastic brilliant basic black pants to go under suits, skirts, trousers - and so we're committed to keeping the price for basics as low as we can, off setting it against other products. We'll sell a white at this price if we can find one we think is good enough.
  • £18.00 - This is what we think of as our 'standard' price. It applies to lace that we can buy in reasonably big batches, and that is great everyday quality. It will probably work with one of our existing patterns.
  • £22 - These laces are something a bit more special. They might have a repeat pattern in the lace that means we have more wastage (we match up patterns on the front and back seams so the pants are perfectly pretty), they almost always require a new pattern.
  • £25 - Deeper, scarcer laces that definitely will need their own pattern.
  • £28 - Delicate, gossamer fine laces that are tricky to cut, and tricky to sew. These can take twice as long as our standard laces to make.

We know we'll find some fabrics that will cost us more to make but that we won't be able to resist... These will be introduced at prices that are fair and represent the work that's gone into them.

And there's more.

Quality in design

We want to be your underwear brand of choice for great fitting, great feeling pants to work, play and socialise in. The fit is as close to perfect as we can get it. We invest time and money in fit - we fit test every fabric on real bodies and for every new fabric we get, we adjust the patterns or ask our (freelance, commercial) designer and product developer to spend up to four days making new ones. All laces are different, and a 1cm difference in depth can mean HUGE differences in fit. A 1 cm difference in how stretchy the fabric is can mean the difference between pants that stay put and hug you all day, to pants that wriggle around under your clothes and, worst case, decorate your ankles nicely.

Quality in production

We check everything. Absolutely everything. We have huge attention to detail. Every single pair of pants is hand cut. Every single cut pattern piece is checked individually. Every single pair of pants is trimmed of every single loose thread. Every single pair of pants is checked completely for size and quality at the end of production (it is *entirely* possible for a size 14 pattern piece to end up as a size 8 pair of pants as our sewing machines have blades in them) And then, they're checked again before we pack them up to send to you. We really want our pants to be the best you've ever worn.

Scarcity

This is just economies of scale. It costs us the same amount to make a pattern whether that pattern is then used for 100 or 10,000 pairs of pants, The less fabric we have, the more the pants will cost.

Difficulty

Again, economies of scale. Some laces are easier than others to cut and sew, and that means we can make them fast. Some are harder than others to cut and sew so they take longer. If it takes longer, we make fewer... so they are more expensive.
