Year of Light events - July 2015

This year is the UN International Year of Light. Southampton is proud of it's strong connections to this - the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton has been at the forefront of developing technologies that we all rely on.

This month there are loads of great events on the theme of Light including the Winchester Science Festival that we've supported in the past. Weekend passes are £45 and there are tons of great talks to see.

Here's our pick of events across the world through July

Until the 16th July, in Jordan, children can learn about Ibn Haytham and his contribution the camera. Light: Beyond the Bulb continues in Graz, Cork, Portugal, Mexico and more. Children can get hands on with photonics in Brussells and there's a display of astronomical art in Arizona.

Closer to home, there are once in a decade (yes really) Open Days at the Rutherford Appleton lab, adventures with bodypaint in London, a whole weekend of light themed activities in Hailsham, and we LOVE the look of the Midnight Run dusk-till-dawn journey across London.

Whatever you get up to enjoy it - and iuf you're interested in learning more about Light check out the really informative Year of Light pages
